Nashdale resident Andrew Rawson is standing for election to Cabonne Council this December.

Andrew is a soil scientist and teaches climate change science and sustainable agriculture at Charles Sturt University. After a long career in State Government agencies devoted to land and water conservation Dr Rawson believes that his experience would provide a fresh perspective to help Council deal with future challenges and help build a sustainable future for residents and businesses across Cabonne.

“I have a long family connection to the Central West and a deep appreciation of the area and of the great lifestyle it has to offer. My wife (Cardiologist, Dr Ruth Arnold) and I have lived here for almost 20 years, and my family has lived in the Central West for 4 generations.”

“There is a reason why tourists visit the region – it is beautiful and bountiful, and I want to ensure that it remains a great place to live and work. This means fixing our roads, better transport between towns and villages, affordable housing and village streetscapes that are both appealing to visitors and just great places to be.”

“I am committed to preserving our beautiful home of Cabonne, with its immense natural and agricultural resources, for future generations. This means a balanced blend of heritage protection and improved infrastructure that makes the best use of new technologies. It means planning that reflects the many challenges this region will face in coming years.

“My platform of “Healthy environment, healthy farms, healthy businesses, healthy people” reflects a passion to ensure that Cabonne thrives as climates are changing, by respecting the valuable landscapes and people that live here and by adapting now to ensure our future prosperity.”

“This means working with farmers, tourism operators, business owners, Indigenous peoples and environmentalists to build a shared vision for this community.”

“I welcome any opportunity to visit and speak to community groups within Cabonne who wish to learn about my vision and experience, and to hear about their needs.
